2 Mumps Cases Reported At George Washington University
George Washington University informed the community of this public health issue.
WASHINGTON, DC — Two George Washington University students have the mumps, NBC Washington reports.
The students have been isolated, following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines. The health center also alerted other students who may have been in contact with the two infected students.
The CDC says mumps is a contagious disease caused by a virus that passes from nasal secretions, saliva and close personal contact. It typically starts with a few days of headache, muscle aches, loss of appetite and fever, before progressing into swollen salivary glands.
