WASHINGTON, DC — One woman was killed and four people were injured in a shooting early Thursday morning at the Days Inn by Wyndham in Northwest D.C., according to D.C. police.
The shooting occurred around 3:30 a.m. at the Van Ness neighborhood hotel in the 4400 block of Connecticut Avenue.
The police said there was possibly an exchange of gunfire inside a room at the hotel, where a late-night party was taking place.

D.C. Police Chief Robert Contee said two women were found shot, one in the lobby and another in a hotel room. Two men went to hospitals on their own, and a third woman also suffered a gunshot wound from which she is expected to survive, according to Contee.
Around 9:15 a.m. Thursday, the D.C. police announced the woman had died.

“They came into the District of Columbia, it appears possibly from Maryland, they rented a room, it may have been just some kind of social interaction going on and one thing led to another that resulted in this shooting,” Contee said at a news conference Thursday morning.
D.C. police have not released the name of the woman who died. They are waiting to inform her family once her identity is confirmed.
"Right now, the pieces are starting to come together," Contee said, adding that the department "hopes to bring the case to a close very soon."
Earlier in the COVID-19 pandemic, the D.C. government had used the hotel as a quarantine place for patients. But the hotel currently is not being used in that way, he said.
One handgun has been recovered at the scene of the shooting, Contee said.
The chief said D.C. police have received 73 calls for service at the Days Inn since last July. Among the calls were 18 for disorderly conduct, while others were for assault and other complaints, Contee said.
