Officers were conducting crowd control in the area at the time of the shooting and provided medical aid to a man at Half-Time Liquors, but he died at the scene, according to police, who said the other eight victims suffered injuries ranging from minor to serious.
Authorities pursued an armed man who had been shooting into a large crowd, ordered him to drop his weapon, and then shot him in the lower back, buttocks and hamstring in an attempt to prevent further injuries, police said. The gunman's wounds were not life-threatening and he was taken into custody, along with two other people, according to police, who said charges in the shooting were pending. All three have ties to the area, police said, noting the attack was determined to be an isolated incident.

The officers who shot the gunman have been placed on administrative leave, according to police.
Mayor John Dailey tweeted his support for Tallahassee police Sunday morning.
"I am proud of the quick response of the brave men and women of the Tallahassee Police Department," he said on Twitter. "They put the safety of others ahead of their own.
"They engaged the situation without hesitation, even running into the line of fire to render aid to a victim. Their quick response disabled a suspect, preventing further casualties, and has already led to the detention of three suspects. Their bravery should be lauded."
There were hundreds of people in the area when the incident took place, the Tallahassee Democrat reported, adding many nearby were wearing Halloween costumes or the team colors for Florida State or Florida A&M, both of which had football games Saturday.
