All Major FL Airports Under Ground Stop Or Departure Delay Tuesday Afternoon

All of Florida’s major airports were under either a ground stop or departure delay on Tuesday afternoon as thunderstorms rolled across the state.

As of about 4:45 p.m., both Tampa and Orlando international airports were under a ground stop, according to the Federal Aviation Administration, although Tampa's was lifted shortly afterward. The delays were related to activity in the southern half of Florida and southeast of the state. As of about 5:10 p.m., delays averaged 52 minutes in Orlando.

International airports in Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Fort Myers were all under departure delays, with average delays ranging by airport from 15 to 75 minutes, according to the administration, with the longest delays in Fort Myers as of about 5:10 p.m.

Thunderstorms were in the afternoon and evening forecast across the state on Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

“Scattered storms will continue through the afternoon for interior portions of SoFlo and shift eastward through the early evening,” the NWS Miami X account said in a post Tuesday afternoon. “Storm activity for tomorrow has trended lower.”
