Body Of Florida Man Missing Since Hurricane Ian Found On Sunken Sailboat: Sheriff

FORT MYERS BEACH, FL — The remains of a Florida man who disappeared during Hurricane Ian have been found inside a submerged sailboat in Fort Meyers Beach, the Lee County Sheriff's office said.

James “Denny” Hurst was found on the “Good Girl” sailboat behind Salty Sams on Fort Myers Beach on Friday, Sheriff Carmine Marceno said in a Facebook post on Sunday.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with his family," he wrote.

Hurst, 72, of Fort Myers Beach, last had contact with his family on Sept. 29, 2022, according to the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System.

Hurst was the last known person missing in the county since the Category 4 hurricane hit Florida, NBC reported.
