APOPKA, FL — An 11-year-old boy is facing attempted murder charges after authorities said he shot two 13-year-olds following a Monday night football practice in Orange County, according to multiple reports.

The shooting happened at Field of Fame in Apopka around 8:30 p.m. after a Pop Warner football practice, Police Chief Mike McKinley said at a news conference reported by WFLA. McKinley said the 11-year-old got into a physical altercation with the two 13-year-olds before he went to his mother's car, grabbed an unsecured gun and used it to shoot the teens, according to reports.

Police said the boy shot one teen in the arm and the other in the torso, WFLA reported.

"We shouldn't have 11-year-olds that have access to guns and think that they can resolve a dispute with a firearm," McKinley said, according to a Spectrum News 13 report, "It's a sad day when an 11-year-old can gain access to a firearm."

McKinley continued, "As a society, we need to reflect on this. We see this way too often in our society now. Juveniles, young juveniles — and they're getting younger every day — that have access to guns. But the more disturbing part is that they believe that that gun, that firearm, is a resolution to their problems.
