FL Homicide Agent Killed While On-Duty In Wrong-Way Crash: 'My Heart Is Broken'
The agent was responding to an officer-involved shooting, according to authorities, who said the wrong-way driver also died.

BREVARD COUNTY, FL — A homicide agent with the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office was killed in a wrong-way crash late Saturday on Interstate 95 while responding to a fatal officer-involved shooting in Mims, authorities said. The wrong-way driver also died, according to police.
Sheriff Wayne Ivey described Agent Kevin Morris as “probably one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet in your life” at a press conference Sunday published by the agency on Facebook.
“My heart’s broken,” the sheriff said, describing Morris as a man of faith who returned to law enforcement after years away, inspired by his daughter’s decision to pursue police work.

The crash occurred around 11 p.m. near the Mims interstate exit, according to authorities, who said a 26-year-old woman driving north made a U-turn and traveled south for at least two miles in the wrong lane before colliding head-on with Morris. Both vehicles were fully engulfed in flames, Ivey said.
Morris had been responding to an incident in which a 79-year-old man was shot and killed by police after authorities said he pointed a gun at deputies during a welfare check.

Before working with Brevard County, Morris had been a member of the Palm Bay Police Department. He left law enforcement for roughly a decade before joining the sheriff’s office in 2021, where he served as a deputy, field training officer and polygraph examiner, as well as a homicide agent, Ivey said. In addition to his daughter, Morris is also survived by his wife.
The wrong-way driver had attended a wedding earlier in the day and was on her way home to Kissimmee before the U-turn and crash, according to Ivey.
“Our thoughts, our prayers go out to that family,” Ivey said. “I know they’re hurting right now.”
Florida Highway Patrol Lt. Channing Taylor said there will be a toxicology report on the driver. Highway patrol is investigating the crash.
