When contacted by Insider, the U.S. Coast Guard said Cuban authorities were coordinating a search and rescue mission for the passenger since the incident happened in Cuban territorial waters.

Currently the largest cruise ship in the world, the Wonder of the Seas measures 1,188 feet in length across 18 decks. The ship accommodates nearly 7,000 passengers and 2,300 crew members.

The incident is one of several in recent months where passengers went overboard on cruise ships.

In July, 30-year-old Jalen Hill jumped from the Carnival Elation cruise ship as it headed for Florida. Two months earlier, 35-year-old man Ronnie Peale went overboard while traveling on Carnival Magic cruise ship, U.S. Coast Guard Southeast shared on social media. Security camera footage showed him fall overboard just after 4 a.m.
