Victim ID'd, Suspect At Large In Shooting At FL Mall: Police

OCALA, FL — The man who died in a shooting at a central Florida mall Saturday afternoon has been identified, Ocala police said late Saturday night.
David Nathaniel Barron, 40, was killed and a woman was injured Saturday at Paddock Mall in Ocala, according to police.
"The Ocala Police Department extends our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and we are committed to bringing the perpetrator to justice," the department said in a news update.

Police were called to the mall at 3:40 p.m. Saturday for a report of an active shooting with multiple victims, authorities said on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Barron was found dead in a common area, and a woman was taken to the hospital and is being treated for injuries that are not life-threatening, police said.

"We believe the shooter fled the area and is at large," police wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, at 6:08 p.m. Saturday. "We also believe this shooting may have been targeted."
The mall was evacuated and police conducted a secondary sweep, according to police.
As of 8:30 p.m., the mall parking lot is open for those who need to retrieve their vehicles; however, the mall is still closed, police said.
Police are urging anyone present during the shooting with information that could help detectives to call Ocala Crime Stoppers at 352-368-7867.
