According to police, Carroll Township officers were notified around 7:10 a.m. Tuesday about a school bus stolen in the Dillsburg area. The alert by Pennsylvania State Police told authorities to be on the lookout for a bus with "Lincoln Coachlines" written on the side and a bus number of 0877.
Officers on patrol later spotted a bus matching that description turning its lights on and off intermittently in a Giant Foods parking lot before turning onto Route 15, police said. Officers pursued the bus to the Mechanicsburg/Bowmansdale exit before attempting to pull over the driver, according to the police report. The driver stopped but immediately pulled away, according to police.

According to the police report, authorities continued to follow the bus, which officers said was winding in and out of traffic erratically before heading to a nearby neighborhood. Once there, the driver — later identified as Saunders — stopped and fled on foot through a wooded area, police said.
Police pursued Saunders, who authorities said removed his clothes while leading officers through parking lots and busy traffic areas. According to the report, police eventually apprehended a naked Saunders, who admitted to taking the bus earlier in the day after crashing a BMW.
When questioned by police, the report said Saunders told police he took the bus and placed a dead deer in the back. According to the report, Saunders planned to drive the deer to his residence and use it as fertilizer for his garden.
Saunders was taken to York Central Booking to be arraigned on criminal charges, police said.
