1. Alachua Brothers Arrested After Violent Family Dispute (alachuacountytoday.com) — Alachua police arrested two brothers after a violent family dispute that left one stabbed and their 67-year-old grandmother pushed to the ground, briefly putting nearby Mebane Middle School into secure status. Officers say both men suffered non-life-threatening injuries before being charged with aggravated battery, aggravated assault, and battery on an elderly person.
   

2. Alachua man charged with aggravated animal cruelty for failing to treat dog with gaping wound (alachuachronicle.com) — An Alachua man has been charged with aggravated animal cruelty after officers found his dog, Big Boy, tethered on a heavy chain with a large, infected neck wound. The dog was seized for treatment at Alachua County Animal Resources but later euthanized, and a judge has now barred the owner from having contact with animals.
   

3. UF's Control Flu Program brings free vaccines to Alachua County schools (wusf.org) — Families in Alachua County should know that UF’s Control Flu program will offer free FluMist nasal spray vaccines at 37 local schools from Sept. 30 through Nov. 10. Working with the county health department, organizers are returning to paper consent forms after online sign-ups cut participation in half, aiming to boost protection for elementary through high school students who might otherwise struggle to access flu shots.
   

4. Water Restrictions Remain Despite Recent Rainfall (alachuacountytoday.com) — Alachua County residents, including those in Alachua, must still follow strict one-day-per-week lawn watering rules despite recent rain, as groundwater levels remain low. Officials are also banning most decorative pressure washing, urging leak repairs, and asking everyone to postpone big water-using projects while portable signs remind drivers to conserve.
