16-Year-Old Arrested In Manatee High School Student’s Death: Bradenton Police

A 16-year-old was charged with manslaughter in the fatal shooting of another teenager in Bradenton, police said.

BRADENTON, FL — A 16-year-old boy was arrested Tuesday in connection with the Monday night fatal shooting of a Manatee High School senior, Bradenton police said in a news release.

Demetrius Lightfoot, Jr., 17, was found dead outside a home in the 700 block of 12th Ave. W. on Monday around 10:15 p.m. He was expected to graduate this week, police said.

The victim’s family allowed police to publish his name and age.

The teen suspect was arrested on Tuesday and charged with manslaughter, police said in an update around 8:30 p.m.

Though police have released the suspect’s name, it’s Patch policy not to identify those in the juvenile court system. It’s unknown whether he is being charged as an adult or juvenile.

The circumstances surrounding Lightfoot’s death remain under investigation.
