500-Pound Man Causes Big Problem for Florida Cops

Volusia County deputies say the man wouldn't fit in a standard patrol car.

An Apopka man created a hefty problem for Volusia County deputies Sunday when they attempted to get him into the back of a patrol car.

It seems the 6-foot, 500-pound man not only refused to budge out of the house he was arrested at, but wouldn’t fit into the patrol car when deputies were able to drag him there, according to Click Orlando.

The incident unfolded Sunday afternoon when Volusia deputies were called out to a Deltona home for a domestic disturbance. A woman at the home told deputies the man cornered her in a garage, poked her, slapped her and spit in her face, The Daytona Beach News-Journal reported.

When deputies tried to bring the 45-year-old man in on charges, however, he refused to cooperate. He sat down and wouldn’t move.

Undaunted, deputies dragged him to a cruiser to take him to the Volusia County Jail. At the cruiser, however, they discovered he was just “too large to put in a patrol vehicle,” the Journal reported.

Howard Hendrix of Apopka remained in the Volusia County Jail as of Tuesday. He faces a host of charges, including battery on a law enforcement officer, criminal mischief, resisting arrest without violence, battery causing bodily harm and DUI, according to jail records.

It is unclear how deputies managed to transport him to the jail.
