1. $10 million beach renourishment project underway on Holiday Isle in Destin (getthecoast.com) ā Work is underway right now to rebuild eroded Destin beaches on Holiday Isle, adding 60 to 80 feet of sand to protect homes and condos while keeping shoreline access mostly open. Crews are pumping more than 150,000 cubic yards of sand in phases over the next couple of weeks, funded largely by FEMA with support from Okaloosa County tourism reserves.

Former member Chatham Morgan returns to Destin council (thedestinlog.com) ā Destin residents have a familiar face returning to the City Council, as longtime local and business owner Chatham Morgan has been unanimously appointed to fill an interim seat through November. With 11 people vying for the role, council members cited Morganās prior council and budget experience as crucial while Destin heads into its next budget cycle and prepares for fall elections.

Florida Panhandle captains win 2026 Angler's Choice Award (mypanhandle.com) ā Destin charter captains just earned top honors in the 2026 Anglerās Choice Awards, making the city Floridaās leading hub for award-winning guides. Twenty-one Destin captains were recognized, outpacing famous fishing spots like Key West, Miami, and St. Petersburg and underscoring the cityās reputation as a premier Panhandle fishing destination.

NSSGA hosts Young Leaders meeting in Florida (pitandquarry.com) ā Destin recently hosted more than 380 young professionals for the National Stone, Sand & Gravel Associationās 2026 Young Leaders Annual Meeting, bringing national industry attention and visitor spending to town. Attendees packed general sessions, breakouts, and a new women-focused BuildHer Lunch & Learn before the event shifts to South Carolina in 2027.

5. Okaloosa County arrested 613 spring breakers this year. See why (nwfdailynews.com) ā If you live in Destin, you likely noticed the heavy law enforcement presence this spring break: deputies made 613 arrests countywide, including 420 in Destin, mostly for underage drinking around Crystal Beach. The Sheriffās Office doubled its beach workforce along Destin and Okaloosa Island, calling this yearās crowds and arrest numbers a ānormalā season despite a slightly shorter break.
