1. Gainesville woman on pre-trial release arrested for trying to hit man with her vehicle (alachuachronicle.com) — Gainesville police arrested a 37-year-old woman after an argument in the Cedar Grove area allegedly escalated into her driving a vehicle toward a man and later struggling with officers. A judge reduced one of the charges to battery on a law enforcement officer and set bail at $20,000. The case stems from a June 30 incident and follows her earlier felony arrest in Bradford County.

2. Judge dismisses individual defendants in UF Health Shands wrongful death lawsuit (wcjb.com) — A Gainesville judge has dismissed, for now, the individual doctors and pharmacists named in a wrongful death lawsuit over a 2024 potassium overdose at UF Health Shands, saying the complaint lacked specifics to overcome sovereign immunity protections. The case against Shands and other institutional defendants will continue, and the family has 20 days to refile with more detailed allegations. Attorneys say they’re eager to move the case toward trial and accountability.

This piece argues that Gainesville’s hot, humid conditions and strong training culture mattered more than altitude. The takeaway: committed, consistent work—wherever you live—can rival glamorous high-altitude camps.

4. Gainesville drug trafficker pleads guilty to federal charge (alachuachronicle.com) — Federal prosecutors say a Gainesville man has pleaded guilty to possessing carfentanil and other drugs with intent to distribute, after a high-speed chase and search of his Gainesville apartment.
