• Free meals for all students at 23 local schools this year (alachuachronicle.com) — Hawthorne Middle/High students will get free breakfast and lunch this school year thanks to a new federal Community Eligibility Provision designation, along with students at 22 other Alachua County schools. Families at non-CEP schools must still apply for free or reduced-price meals based on income, and can get help or paper applications directly from their child’s school or by calling the district.
