Jacksonville to host 2026 Unidos Jax Dinner honoring Hispanic community (actionnewsjax.com) — Jacksonville is hosting the 2026 Unidos Jax Dinner on Sept. 17 at the Main Library downtown, celebrating the city's Hispanic community with dinner, dancing, live performances and awards. Mayor Donna Deegan and Councilman Rahman Johnson are slated to attend, and tickets are available online through the city's special events website for the 5–9 p.m. program.
   

2. Democrat Moné Holder wins Jacksonville City Council seat, vows to lower cost of living (firstcoastnews.com) — Jacksonville voters have elected Democrat Moné Holder to the at-large Group 1 City Council seat, making her the only Democrat in an at-large position on the GOP-led council. She's promising to focus on lowering living costs, housing affordability, and workforce development while scrutinizing programs like the NAVI transportation initiative for real returns to Jacksonville residents.
   

3. Jacksonville cooling center to offer food and shelter as temps hit 95+ degrees (actionnewsjax.com) — With temperatures expected to hit 95 degrees or higher today, City Rescue Mission is opening its New Life Inn cooling center on West State Street from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Jacksonville. Residents can escape the heat, get a hot meal, clean clothes, and rest, and the mission will reopen centers on any future days that reach the same extreme temperatures.
   

4. Jacksonville man killed in JSO shooting remembered as 'personable,' 'easygoing' by fellow Navy veteran (news4jax.com) — Friends are remembering Jacksonville Navy veteran Christopher Ford as personable and easygoing after he was fatally shot by a Jacksonville Sheriff's Office sergeant on West Beaver Street Tuesday. Police say Ford fired first, striking a building, before the sergeant shot back; body camera footage is expected within 21 days, and mental health resources are highlighted for residents in crisis.
   

5. Cafecito Coffee Social; Jax Library Writer's Day; Tattoo Convention Jacksonville Today (jaxtoday.org) — Riverside's Cafecito is hosting a free Friday coffee social with DJ-spun music and Cuban coffee provided by Visit Jacksonville. Saturday, the Main Library downtown offers a free Jax Book Fest Writer's Day, while the Jacksonville Tattoo Convention runs all weekend at World Golf Village in nearby St. Augustine.
