The Predator Group's On Cue project would bring restaurants, bars, and billiard lounges to Liberty Business Park, pending full City Council approval that could reshape entertainment options in that area.

2. City council approves $30M gas tax to rescue JTA from financial crisis (news4jax.com) — Jacksonville's City Council is poised to vote on releasing $30 million in local gas tax funds to stabilize the financially troubled Jacksonville Transportation Authority, with no new taxes but a required payback by 2037. The move follows budget shortfalls, layoffs, and state scrutiny of JTA's spending, including a subpoena to Mayor Donna Deegan and calls for independent audits and possible criminal investigation.

3. JEA customer says security guard frisked him during service visit; the utility company responds (news4jax.com) — A Jacksonville man says a JEA security guard patted him down after directing him through a metal detector at the utility's Pearl Street office, where he was trying to change his billing address. JEA says customers with a "service risk flag" must be screened before meeting its Revenue Assurance team and insists guards do not frisk or touch customers during screenings.

4. Jacksonville council members push for utility relief as residents struggle with JEA bills (firstcoastnews.com) — Jacksonville residents facing sharply higher JEA bills can speak directly with utility and city officials at a public meeting Thursday, Oct. 8, at City Hall. Two City Council members are proposing to tap city reserves to expand bill-assistance programs run through United Way and other partners, while Mayor Donna Deegan's office highlights existing payment-flexibility and energy-efficiency options for struggling households.

5. Duval school board approves headquarters sale, employee suspension, and book removals (actionnewsjax.com) — Duval County's school board has approved selling its Southbank headquarters for $15.1 million, giving the district three years to relocate its central offices. Members also suspended Jacksonville City Council member and DCPS employee Tyrona Clark-Murray for 10 days without pay and voted to remove four books, including the 1984 graphic novel, from school shelves, affecting classroom materials across Jacksonville.
