After 6 Months On The Job, Miami Police Chief Art Acevedo Fired In Unanimous Vote: Report
Miami city commissioners voted unanimously to fire police Chief Art Acevedo Thursday night.

MIAMI, FL — After six months on the job, city commissioners voted unanimously Thursday night to fire Miami police Chief Art Acevedo.
Acevedo, the former Houston police chief, was hired to replace former Miami Chief Jorge Colina, who retired.
During his brief time with the city, he’s been involved in multiple controversies, including cursing at a person in public, implying during an interview that Miami police would be forced to get the COVID-19 vaccine and joking that the city was being run by “Cuban Mafia.”

City Manager Art Noriega also said that he had asked Acevedo to create a comprehensive policing plan for the city, which the chief failed to do, according to the Miami Herald.
Acevedo was suspended by Noriega Monday.

During the hearing, his attorney claimed that city leaders wanted him gone because of corruption, according to the Associated Press.
“He was hired with a high level of expectation, and unfortunately, not every hire works,” Miami Mayor Francis Suarez said, according to WSVN.
“Despite the fact the department has many men and women, wonderful men and women serving, the department was and continues to be in need of reform,” Acevedo said outside City Hall after the vote to terminate him.
He added, “I lament the fact that I will not have the opportunity to continue serving here. To reiterate, there are many quality men and women in this department. I want them to know that I admire them and will continue to support them.”
