Churchill's Pub marks 47 years of music with month-long celebration (wsvn.com) — Churchill's Pub in Little Haiti is celebrating 47 years with a month-long lineup of live music and performances at its Miami location on NE 2nd Avenue. The iconic underground venue is also marking one year since reopening after the pandemic, with genres ranging from electronic to punk and experimental acts filling the calendar.

South Florida averages 2 lightning deaths and 8 injuries per year: meteorologist (miamiherald.com) — A Miami-Dade Sheriff's deputy survived a lightning strike to his vehicle near the county's Fire Rescue Training Center in Doral, underscoring how dangerous storms can be across South Florida. A National Weather Service meteorologist says the region averages two lightning deaths and eight injuries a year, and urges residents to head indoors or into a hard-topped vehicle whenever thunder is heard.
   

3. Florida ICE Removes Alleged Cuban Spy Who Lied About Background to Get Green Card (lawenforcementtoday.com) — Federal immigration agents recently arrested a 61-year-old man at Miami International Airport and removed him from the U.S. after determining he hid past work for the Cuban government to obtain a green card. Officials say he had long targeted Cuban exile and dissident communities, and Miami ICE leaders stress they will keep pursuing people who gain immigration status through fraud.
   

4. Florida Bars Undocumented Students from UF, Other State Universities (bocaratontribune.com) — Undocumented students will no longer be allowed to enroll at Florida's public universities, a new rule that directly affects Miami's Florida International University and many local high school graduates. Advocates warn Miami's immigrant-rich communities and economy could feel long-term impacts as universities lose tuition revenue and potential future workers educated in the state.
   

5. Shota Imanaga leads Cubs past Marlins into top wild-card spot (statenews.net) — Miami Marlins fans saw the home team fall 6-1 to the Chicago Cubs, as Chicago's Shota Imanaga dominated into the seventh inning and Marlins relievers struggled with control. Despite a late Miami run, Cubs hitters steadily pulled away, while a highlight-reel catch and solid bullpen work helped Chicago grab the National League's top wild-card spot.
