Lines Tighten As Florida Reopens Fall Snook Season Across Most State Waters (tampafp.com) — If you fish around New Smyrna Beach, snook season reopens Sept. 1 with a one-fish daily limit and a 28–32 inch slot in the Atlantic zones. New Smyrna Beach marks the southern boundary of the Northeast region and the start of the Indian River Lagoon zone, so local anglers should double-check which side of Lytle Avenue they're on before keeping a catch. 
2. VOTE: Volusia-Flagler Girls Athlete of the Week for Aug. 24-29 presented by Halifax Health (news-journalonline.com) — Local sports fans can vote this week for the Halifax Health Volusia-Flagler Girls Athlete of the Week, with New Smyrna Beach golfer Elayna Harvey among the nominees after shooting even-par 36 in a team win. Another nominee, Spruce Creek's Riley Lecompte, also starred in a victory over New Smyrna Beach, and online voting runs until 10 a.m. Friday.
3. I Found a Famous Photographer's Early Print for Just $5 in an Antique Store (petapixel.com) — A historian who researches East Volusia communities, including New Smyrna Beach, traces a $5 antique-store photo back to famed photographer Jack Mitchell's early Florida career. The print, stamped with his New Smyrna Beach studio address, turned out to be a 1950 water-skiing shot originally published in the Daytona Beach News-Journal, reconnecting local people, places, and memories after 76 years.
4. Cory Mills ditches Congress, retreats to beach house (thehornnews.com) — Former Rep.
