WESLEY CHAPEL, FL — A family of seven and their neighbor were seriously injured Friday evening after their golf cart crashed into a car in Wesley Chapel, the Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release.

The golf car, driven by a 43-year-old Wesley Chapel man, was heading east on Elam Road in a golf cart lane, around 6:15 p.m.

At the same time, a Honda Accord, driven by a 17-year-old Wesley Chapel girl, was also heading east on the road, just behind the golf cart.

All eight on the golf cart — the driver, his wife, their five children and their 16-year-old neighbor — were brought to area hospitals with serious injuries, troopers said.

After the crash, the car came to a stop on the road’s shoulder, partially in a nearby pond.

The driver and her passenger, a 17-year-old girl, were uninjured.
