Video Released of 'Low-Speed' Chase

A woman is accused of attempting to hit a police officer, taking off and then crashing at police headquarters.

NEW PORT RICHEY, FL — The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office has released body cam video shot during a Thursday “low-speed” chase that resulted in the arrest of a 56-year-old woman.

The video shows portions of the chase that kicked off after Pasco County deputy spotted a suspected impaired driver. The woman is accused of attempting to hit a New Port Richey Police officer before taking off. The “chase” ended when the woman’s car crashed onto the lawn of police headquarters in New Port Richey and the woman struck a cruiser while trying to back up.

On the video, which gets heated at times, the woman repeatedly tells officers, “This is a false arrest.” She also threatened to sue.

Despite her assertions, Liisa Myers – which really is Liisa with two I’s – was charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, fleeing to elude, DUI, DUI with property damage, three counts of aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, leaving the scene of an accident with property damage, reckless driving and other charges.

That long list began to add up Thursday when Myers caught the attention of a deputy around 1:45 p.m. when he noticed she was dozing off behind the wheel while driving northbound on U.S. 19 at Marine Parkway. Hoping to prevent an accident, the deputy used lights and the siren to try and get Myers’ attention, an email from the sheriff’s office stated.

Myers eventually slowed to a stop in front of a New Port Richey Police officer who got out of his cruiser to make sure she stayed put. Myers, the email said, decided to keep on going and “surged her vehicle toward the officers forcing him to take evasive action and jump out of the way.” She then hit the gas, drove onto a median and kept on going. A “low-speed pursuit” began at that time (around 40 mph) with both the deputy and police officer trailing Myers, the email said. At one point, Myers almost hit a cruiser.

“Then she ended up in the parking lot of the New Port Richey Police Department where she drove over a curb and onto the lawn,” the email said. “She then backed up, slamming into a NPR PD cruiser.”

Myers was quickly brought into custody after that. She remained in the Land O’ Lakes jail Friday morning in lieu of that $140,500 bond.
