• Palataka man charged with animal cruelty after puppies found dying in trash can (actionnewsjax.com) — Palatka police arrested a 65-year-old man after a sanitation worker discovered dead and dying puppies in a trash can outside his home, leading officers to find eight dogs living in filthy conditions inside. Most of the animals were underweight with little access to food or water, and surviving dogs are now in animal control care while the suspect faces multiple cruelty charges.
   

• Commission unanimous in vote to oust finance director (palatkadailynews.com) — Palatka’s City Commission has voted unanimously to fire Finance Director Chantel Pierre and accepted City Attorney Jane West’s departure while hiring an outside Jacksonville law firm on an interim basis. Interim City Manager Cynthia Curry said the changes, effective later this month, are meant to better align staff with the city’s needs as leaders work through budget decisions and ongoing legal matters.
