📰 News we're reading
• 104 people cited so far in 2026 for ignoring double-red flags in PCB (newsherald.com) — Panama City Beach officials have already cited 104 people this year for illegally entering the Gulf during double-red-flag conditions, with fines up to $500 per violation. Lifeguards report 17 rescues and hundreds of thousands of preventative actions, stressing that double-red flags mean the water is too dangerous to enter and urging residents and visitors to follow the beach flag system.

• Head Coach Jona Hammond brings beach training back for another summer (mypanhandle.com) — High school soccer coach Jona Hammond is again using Panama City Beach’s deep sand for summer conditioning, inviting players from multiple schools and age groups to train together. He says the beach workouts boost speed, build endurance, and let younger athletes learn work ethic from older players as he starts a new chapter leading Bay High.

• Bertha downgraded again. What to know as former tropical storm dissipates (kansas.com) — Former Tropical Storm Bertha has weakened into a remnant trough, but its rough weather was felt earlier this week at Panama City Beach’s M.B. Miller County Pier and along the Gulf Coast. With watches and warnings now dropped, forecasters say remaining impacts are mainly elevated water levels and rain in parts of Texas, while the broader Atlantic remains quiet for new storms through July.
