Annual FSU PC suicide summit follows 3 Panama City Beach suicides (newsherald.com) — Florida State University Panama City will host a free Suicide Awareness Summit on Sept. 25 at the Holley Academic Center, following three recent balcony suicides in Panama City Beach. Residents can attend seminars, workshops, and evidence-based training sessions led by keynote speakers focused on mental health and prevention. Officials stress the summit isn't tied to specific cases but comes at a sensitive time locally.
   

2. New rehab unit aims to fill Bay County bed shortage (newsherald.com) — Ascension Sacred Heart Bay in Panama City is adding an 18-bed inpatient rehab unit to address a shortage of rehabilitation beds in Bay County. The $11 million project, expected to finish next spring, will expand care for patients recovering from serious medical events and create about 50 new health care jobs. Hiring is slated to begin later this fall.
   

3. Truesdell Clubhouse in St. Andrews Set for $500K Renovation (wjhg.com) — Panama City is moving ahead with nearly $500,000 in repairs to the long-closed Truesdell Clubhouse in St. Andrews, aiming to finish exterior work by January 31, 2027. The project includes new outdoor gathering spaces and key HVAC and electrical upgrades, complementing already completed park and stormwater improvements as the community continues recovering from Hurricane Michael.
   

4. Deal reached to redevelop historic Panama City Grammar School (wjhg.com) — A long-vacant historic school building in downtown Panama City is finally set for new life as apartments and townhomes after city commissioners cleared a redevelopment deal. The city will waive $375,000 in fines and provide a $100,000 CRA grant if the developer stabilizes key structural elements within a year, or the fines return. Leaders say preserving this 1914 landmark is crucial after Hurricane Michael's damage to local history.
   

5. Panama City man convicted in 448 grams meth bust (mypanhandle.com) — A Panama City man has been convicted in federal court for conspiring to distribute and possessing with intent to distribute a large quantity of high-purity meth tied to a Panama City Beach traffic stop. Jurors heard how officers found 448 grams of meth under a front seat after a K-9 alert. He now faces at least 10 years in prison, with sentencing set for November 13.
