Pensacola approves state immigration grant, increasing police budget by $540K (weartv.com) — Pensacola residents should know the City Council has accepted a $540,000 state immigration enforcement grant, boosting the Pensacola Police Department budget for new radios, technology, and overtime. Supporters say it saves local tax dollars, while critics argue it ties city policing too closely to federal immigration enforcement and ICE operations.
   

2. Pensacola Man Sentenced for Firearms Offense (justice.gov) — A 23-year-old Pensacola man has been sentenced to 20 months in federal prison for making and selling unregistered 3D‑printed conversion devices that turned AR‑15s fully automatic. Escambia County Sheriff's Office and federal agents led the investigation, which officials say reflects a broader push to quickly prosecute serious firearms offenses affecting local communities.

Last produced Harrier Jet Moved to Museum (militaryspot.com) — The last AV‑8B II+ Harrier ever produced by the Marine Corps has arrived at Naval Air Station Pensacola and is now a permanent exhibit at the National Naval Aviation Museum. Local visitors can soon see the historic jet and its separate engine display, honoring decades of Harrier service as the Corps transitions to F‑35B aircraft.
   

4. What is the Challenge Grant, How is it Used to Stop Homelessness City of Pensacola (opgov.news) — Escambia County is receiving nearly $700,000 in state Challenge Grant funding this year to support homelessness programs that directly affect residents in Pensacola and neighboring communities. Managed locally through Opening Doors Northwest Florida, the money will fund rent assistance, emergency shelter, hotel stays, outreach, and case management, with strict limits on administrative costs and requirements that local providers serve at least 26 people each month.
   

5. Escambia County rodeo to benefit horses and girls at Elberta ranch (wkrg.com) — A major fundraiser rodeo for Shorty's Safe Haven Girls Ranch is being held at the Escambia County Equestrian Center in Pensacola, bringing bull riding, barrel racing, food trucks, and a kids zone. Organizers say moving the event to Pensacola's covered arena lets more people attend while supporting rescued horses and girls dealing with trauma and bullying.
