Judge Lifts Ban on Feeding Homeless for 30 Days in Fort Lauderdale

After a lawsuit and challenges from a 90-year-old homeless advocate, the ban has been revoked temporarily for mediation.

A Florida judge has suspended Fort Lauderdale’s ban on feeding the homeless in public after a 90-year-old man challenged the ordinance.

Arnold Abbott, a homeless advocate who has been arrested three times for defying the rule, rallied support on the issue from more than 100 protesters on Saturday, Nov. 29.

In response to Abbott’s actions and to a suit filed by lawyers Bill Scherer and Bruce Rogow who claim the law violates the U.S. Constitution, Broward Circuit Judge Thomas Lynch lifted the ban for 30 days for mediation, according to The Associated Press.
