Trooper Injured By Debris After DUI Driver Crashes Into Pulled-Over Patrol Car On I-75: FL Highway Patrol
A Sarasota man was arrested after crashing into an empty patrol car on I-75, FL troopers said. Debris from the crash hit a nearby trooper.

COLLIER COUNTY, FL — A state trooper was seriously injured Sunday morning after being hit by an impaired driver on Interstate 75 in Alligator Alley while standing outside their patrol car helping a disabled motorist, the Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release.
The trooper’s Dodge Charger was stopped on I-75 near mile marker 64 with its emergency lights, positioned at an angle, partially on the outside travel lane and paved shoulder, just before 3:30 a.m.
At the same time, a Toyota sedan was heading north on the highway in the outside travel lane approaching the trooper’s patrol car.

The Toyota hit the left front of the Dodge Charger with the impact tearing the left front tire and bumper from the trooper’s car, FHP said.
Debris from the collision hit the trooper, who was brought to an area hospital with serious injuries, the agency said.

The driver, Jonathan Munas, 32, of Sarasota, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence. He was booked into Collier County Jail.
He had a blood alcohol content of .159 at the time of his arrest, troopers said.
Munas was uninjured in the crash.
