Motorcyclist Seriously Injured, SUV Driver Arrested In Hillsborough Crash: FL Troopers

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL — A motorcyclist was seriously injured, and the driver of an SUV was arrested in a Saturday evening crash on State Road 400, Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release.

Investigators are also looking for a third vehicle that was involved in the crash.

As a trooper responded to a call for service while heading west on S.R. 400, two speeding vehicles overtook his marked patrol vehicle near milepost 16.5 around 7:20 p.m.

The lead vehicle, a silver Toyota Camry, passed the trooper at speeds of about 100 mph, FHP said. The Camry overtook the motorcyclist in the outside lane and cut in front of the trooper to pass them.

As the trooper accelerated to pull over the Camry, the second vehicle, a Kia Seltos, tried the same maneuver.

During this attempt, the SUV hit the motorcyclist while adjacent to the patrol vehicle, FHP said.

The rider, a 52-year-old Plant City man, was thrown from the motorcycle and brought to an area hospital with serious injuries, troopers said.

After the crash, the SUV driver, Preston Taylor Nascimento, 22, of Apopka, stopped along the highway’s shoulder and was arrested for reckless driving involving serious bodily injury.
