Woman Killed In Fiery 3-Vehicle Crash On U.S. 301: FL Troopers

A 64-year-old NY woman died after the SUV she was a passenger in caught fire following a 3-vehicle crash on US 301, FL troopers said.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL — A 62-year-old woman was killed early Saturday morning in a fiery three-vehicle crash on U.S. 301, the Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release.

A Chevrolet Camaro, driven by a 22-year-old Brandon woman, was heading south on the highway and collided nearly head on with a GMC Terrain going north on U.S. 301 when she crossed the center line around 12:30 a.m.

Both vehicles rotated and came to a rest in the U.S. 301 northbound lane and its shoulder, respectively.

A Toyota Camry, driven by a 31-year-old Ruskin man, was traveling north on U.S. 301 and hit the Camaro after the initial crash, FHP said.

The SUV also caught fire after the crash and responding Hillsborough County deputies helped the driver, a 64-year-old New York man, get out of it.

His 64-year-old wife, who was a passenger in the SUV, couldn’t be removed from the burning vehicle and suffered fatal injuries at the scene, FHP said.

The drivers all suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were brought to area hospitals.
