FL College Student One Of 2 Found Dead In Car At OH University

STEUBENVILLE, OH — A 20-year-old Indian Shores man was one of two college students found dead in a car parked at an Ohio university on Monday morning.

Luke Reimer and Mary Mich, 20, of Downing, Pennsylvania, were found inside a car in a Franciscan University of Steubenville residence hall parking lot just before noon, Father Dave Pivonka, the university’s president, said in a message to the community.

Their bodies were found after a caller requested a welfare check on the vehicle, reports said.

The Jefferson County coroner’s office said the students died of carbon monoxide poisoning, The Intelligencer/Wheeling News-Register reported.

In his message, Pivonka said that “early indicators suggest this was a tragic accident related to a potential vehicle exhaust or engine malfunction.”

Steubenville police told People that there were no signs of foul play or drug use.

“This was ruled accidental in nature and appears to be caused by a problem with the vehicle's exhaust,” police said.

The couple had recently celebrated their first anniversary in November, reports said.

Reimer was a lacrosse player at the university.

Their deaths bring “profound sorrow to our entire Franciscan University community. We grieve the loss of two young lives, and our hearts ache for their families, friends, classmates, professors, and all who knew and loved them. Please know that we are holding Luke and Mary, and all who mourn them, close in prayer, asking the Lord for comfort, mercy, and peace,” Pivonka said.
