New Edge District Gelato Shop Sets Opening Date

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — A new dessert brand that’s famous for its hand-shaped gelato roses and other sweet treats is opening a shop soon in St. Petersburg’s Edge District.

The iconic Amorino gelato brand, which serves authentic Italian gelato, will host its grand opening celebration on May 2, 1 to 4 p.m., according to the company’s social media pages.

The shop is located at 1246 Central Ave. N.

“St. Pete, it’s finally happening,” company wrote in the Facebook event page for the opening date, adding, “Bring your friends, bring your sweet tooth, and come celebrate.”

The event promises grand opening surprises, “photo-worthy gelato flowers,” sweet giveaways and more.

The gelato is made from carefully sourced ingredients that are free of preservatives, artificial flavors and flavor enhancers.

Childhood friends and co-founders, Cristiano Sereni and Paolo Benassi, combined two of their passions, Italy and gelato, to open the first Amorino store in the heart of Paris in 2002, according to the company’s website.

They launched a franchise network in 2006, leading to the opening of more than 90 Amorino shops throughout France.

Two years later, the brand’s first international franchise opened in Barcelona, and then expanded to other major cities, including New York, London and Milan.

By 2022, the company had more than 300 stores worldwide.

St. Petersburg will be Amorino’s second location in Florida. Its first shop in the Sunshine State opened at Tampa International Plaza in 2022.
