Now he faces trial (tampabay.com) — A long-delayed St. Petersburg murder case is finally going before a Pinellas County jury, 24 years after a woman was found fatally beaten in a downtown boarding house. Jurors are hearing graphic testimony, police interviews, and arguments over the defendant's mental state, while a judge has ruled he is competent to stand trial despite his disruptive courtroom behavior.
   

2. St. Pete's Great Explorations kid's museum hosts free science festival on Saturday (cltampa.com) — Families in St. Petersburg can enjoy free morning admission and hands-on STEAM activities at Great Explorations Children's Museum during its Ignite! science festival this Saturday, Aug. 22. Kids can dive into robotics, art, demos, and engineering challenges while supporting the museum's educational programs, but parents need to register in advance to reserve their spot.
   

3. Rays ride 5-run fourth to take down Blue Jays (heraldonline.com) — Tampa Bay Rays fans in St. Petersburg saw a 5-run fourth inning power a 7–6 home win over the Toronto Blue Jays, with Yandy Díaz and Richie Palacios driving in two runs each. Drew Rasmussen notched his 13th win despite a shaky fifth, and closer Bryan Baker locked down his 36th save. The victory snapped a rough stretch and kept the Rays' playoff push on track at the Trop.
   

4. Gasparilla Arts Names Selection Jurors for 2027 Raymond James Gasparilla Festival of the Arts (stpetecatalyst.com) — A curator from the Museum of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg has been tapped as one of four jurors choosing artists for the 2027 Gasparilla Festival of the Arts in Tampa. Their decisions will shape which artists exhibit at the major March 6–7, 2027 event, a big regional showcase for Tampa Bay's creative community that often features St. Pete talent.
