Arrest Made In Killing Of Fort Stewart Soldier

FORT STEWART, GA — An infantryman has been arrested in the shooting death of a fellow soldier Monday at Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield, base officials said Friday.

Base officials accused Specialist Shay A. Wilson, 28, of Cambria Heights, New York, of killing Sgt. Nathan Hillman with a privately-owned weapon. Wilson is charged on suspicion of murder.

Both soldiers were assigned to the Second Armored Brigade Combat Team, Third Infantry Division, where the shooting took place. Base officials said Wilson was arrested at the scene and taken to the Army's Criminal Investigations Division.

Wilson was not a decorated soldier and had no deployments, base officials said.

The case is still being investigated.

Hillman was a chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear specialist who was assigned to the Second Armored Brigade Combat Team, known as the Spartan Brigade, in July 2021. He was from Plum, Pennsylvania, and joined the Army in February 2015, according to military officials.
