Soldier Killed In Fort Stewart Shooting Identified
The soldier who died was assigned to the Spartan Brigade.

FORT STEWART, GA — The soldier who died Monday in a shooting at Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield was identified as Sgt. Nathan Hillman, 30, according to the Third Infantry Division.
Hillman was a chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear specialist who was assigned to the Second Armored Brigade Combat Team, known as the Spartan Brigade, in July 2021. He was from Plum, Pennsylvania, and joined the Army in February 2015, according to military officials.
Hillman deployed once to Afghanistan and was awarded two Army Commendation Medals and two Army Achievement Medals, according to military officials. He also earned an Air Assault Badge.

"On Monday morning, the Spartan family lost one of our own in a tragic and unexpected way," Col. Ethan J. Diven, commander of the Spartan Brigade, said in a statement. "With deepest sorrow, our hearts are with the families and units involved in the incident. Providing support to the impacted families and soldiers is our first priority. We are working closely with the Fort Stewart military police and U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division.”
The shooting Monday prompted a brief lockdown at Fort Stewart's Second Armored Brigade Combat Team complex.

A suspect was in custody, but the person's name has not been released.
The case is still being investigated.
