ATLANTA, GA — Several metro Atlanta counties are under a tornado watch until 7 p.m. Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

Gwinnett, Barrow, Cobb, DeKalb, Forsyth, Clarke, Douglas, Fulton and Paulding counties are under the watch.

A tornado was confirmed near Atlanta Airport Thursday afternoon.

The alert comes shortly ahead of anticipated severe thunderstorms for metro Atlanta and other parts of Georgia.

Metro Atlanta counties are also under a wind advisory until 11 p.m. Thursday as 16 mph wind gusts are expected.
