Former Acworth Alderman Elected to Cobb County Commission
Bob Weatherford will soon be the District 1 Commissioner, replacing the retiring Helen Goreham.

A longtime member of the Acworth City Council who resigned his post to run for a seat on the Cobb County Board of Commissioners realized his ambition with a resounding electoral victory on Tuesday.
Republican Bob Weatherford, who served as Post 3 Alderman in Acworth for 12 years, defeated Democrat Derrick Crump in the race to see who would succeed Helen Goreham as the Cobb County District 1 Commissioner. Weatherford gained 70.39 percent of the vote, according to unofficial results provided by the Georgia Secretary of State’s Office.
Once he takes office in January, Weatherford will represent Acworth, west Cobb, and Kennesaw on the Cobb County Board of Commissioners.

Weatherford retired from his position in Acworth in February, preparing to run for the seat being vacated by the retiring Goreham. He squared off against former Cobb County Commissioner Bill Byrne and three other candidates in the May 20 Republican primary, but did not earn enough votes to avoid a runoff against Byrne. Weatherford defeated Byrne in the July 22 runoff with 61.5 percent of the vote.
Acworth voters also chose Bret North to succeed Weatherford on the Acworth City Council during the July 22 election.
