Alpharetta Officer Dragged By Man Attempting To Flee: Police

Once stopped, the suspect continued to fight and attempt to run from the officer until he was tackled to the ground and taken into custody.

ALPHARETTA, GA — A 24-year-old Alpharetta man has been arrested on multiple drug and assault charges after his car dragged a police officer during an arrest, according to police. About $2,000 cash and marijuana were seized by investigators.

At 6:40 p.m. on April 5, an Alpharetta police officer made a traffic stop for a vehicle he saw driving recklessly on Old Milton Parkway, the police report said. During the discussion with the driver, Dennis Aguirre, 24, of Alpharetta, the officer suspected there were illegal drugs in the car and that the driver may be impaired because he reportedly said he had just smoked pot with a friend.

Due to Aguirre’s responses and behavior, the officer told him to get out of his car. Aguirre was being detained when he started questioning why he was being arrested, according to the incident report. Aguirre then began to struggle with the officer, got back into his car and attempted to drive with the officer still holding onto him.

The officer’s arm was pinned inside the car by Aguirre, so he was unable to let go of the suspect and car. The officer was dragged several feet before he was able to turn the car off while Aguirre tried to keep driving.

Once stopped, Aguirre attempted to run from the officer and fought with the officer until he was tackled to the ground and taken into custody, police say. A second officer arrived and helped with the arrest.

Both the officer and Aguirre had minor cuts and scratches from the incident. The officer was checked by EMS and returned to duty. Aguirre was taken to North Fulton Regional Hospital for medical clearance before being put in jail.

He was arrested for several charges including aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, trafficking illegal narcotics, possession of illegal narcotics with intent to distribute, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of drug related objects, DUI, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license and obscured tag.

A search of the vehicle revealed 185 grams of THC wax broken down into seven individual bars, 30 grams of marijuana, THC vape canisters, $2,149 in cash, a glass smoking device, a butane torch, empty Ziploc bags, plastic 1 gram THC wax containers and a digital scale.

This case is pending prosecution by the Fulton County District Attorney’s office, therefore, no other details can be released at this time, the department said.
