Alpharetta Police Seeking Man Who Killed Dog Behind Restaurant

Alpharetta Police are looking for information regarding a dog that was found with a broken neck and legs, and the man they say killed it.

ALPHARETTA, GA — Alpharetta Police are looking for any information regarding a man who killed and then left a black Labrador retriever behind a local restaurant.

A man who works for Atlantic Seafood Company off Mansell Road called police around 11:55 p.m. May 25 to report animal cruelty.

Officers found a small, black Labrador on the back side of the business that was dead, according to the police report.

The employee told officers that earlier that evening, he was out behind the restaurant on a break when he saw a black male, wearing black clothing being abusive toward a small dog. There was also a black sedan next to the male that the employee believed the male was riding in, the report said. When the male saw the employee staring at him, he yelled at him and began walking toward him aggressively, so he went back inside the restaurant.

The employee said the dog looked like it was scared and was not being aggressive, police said.

When the employee came back outside about 15 minutes later, he saw the dog was dead behind the restaurant next door, so he called 911.

Police said it appeared as if the neck was broken and possibly the legs broken, too. The officers also saw blood splatter on the back door to the restaurant, as well as blood on the stone wall. A plastic cover to a valve shut off was also broken and on the ground.

As police were clearing the scene, they saw a Fulton County Animal Control officer sitting at the business left of Atlantic Seafood. The animal control officer said he was responding to the report of an aggressive dog in the area. He said an anonymous male called and reported an aggressive black dog in the area of the business.

The animal cruelty officer was able to provide the phone number of the caller, who lived in East Point but was calling from College Park.

Both officers agreed it was "too much of a coincidence for animal control to be contacted about an aggressive dog in the same location where the dog was observed being beaten and found dead," according to the report.
