FULTON COUNTY, GA — Fulton County students and teachers have something even more to celebrate this week, besides the Atlanta Braves' World Series win.

Fulton County Schools officials gave the Friday workday and school day the chop. All schools will be closed Friday for a student and teacher holiday to celebrate the Braves bringing home the championship, the district announced Wednesday afternoon.

The Braves — clinching the World Series title for the first time in 26 years late Tuesday night — announced a parade scheduled for Friday, and Fulton County will house the first phase of the parade route. Due to potential interruptions in the school day, the district said Wednesday it will close all schools on Friday.

Fulton Schools joins other districts in the metro Atlanta region also closing school on Friday, including Cobb County, Marietta, Douglas County, DeKalb County, and Gwinnett County.

"We anticipate a large number of staff and students will participate and be absent, which could lead to a disruption in learning on a broad scale," the district said in a statement. "Therefore, the Fulton County School System, including all schools and administrative offices, will be closed this Friday similar to an Inclement Weather Day. However, there will be no makeup day or remote learning/remote work expectations for students and staff.
