Stockpiled Dirt Relocation Postponed to March 31

The mound of dirt will be moved from Crabapple Road in Milton to the Houze-Hembree intersection in Roswell

MILTON, GA -- A contractor working on a road project along S.R. 372 in Crabapple will relocate stockpiled dirt to a roundabout project underway in the city of Roswell.

The Georgia Department of Transportation contractor will move the mound of dirt located near the intersection of S.R. 372/Crabapple Road at Crabapple Chase Drive to the site of the Houze Road and Hembree Road intersection improvement project in Roswell, the city of Milton said Thursday.

From 8 p.m. Friday, March 31 to 5 a.m. Monday, April 3, the contractor will close the Roswell intersection, which will allow for dirt to be hauled from Crabapple to Roswell.

The city of Milton notes plans currently call for trucks to start running Friday night into Saturday evening, "but that timing could change, as this project is dependent upon weather conditions."

"We regret any inconvenience this may cause, particularly our residents located in Crabapple Crossroads and Braeburn neighborhoods and our neighbors across the street in Crabapple Chase," the city added. "With multiple road projects that involve a road closure, the goal is to complete the transfer of the stockpile as quickly as possible to minimize the overall impact to all area residents."

For the Houze-Hembree closure, traffic will be detoured using Alpharetta Highway (Highway 9), Crossville Road (Highway 92) and Rucker Road. Detour signage will be in place, and city of Roswell public safety crews oversee traffic flow along the detour route.

The Houze/Hembree roundabout will be one of the first multi-lane roundabouts on a state route. The estimated date of completion is Fall 2017.

The primary purpose of the roundabout is to relieve congestion and improve safety at the intersection. The project also includes a multi-use trail on the south side of Hembree Road that will connect with the existing trail at Upper Hembree Road.

The construction cost for the Houze/Hembree roundabout is $4.4 million and is funded by GDOT. Roswell contributed $353,500 toward preliminary engineering and design and right-of-way acquisition.
