SAR Piedmont Chapter plants LIBERTY TREE at Bulloch Hall, Roswell, GA

On June 15, 2023, in honor of the United States of America’s 250th Anniversary in 2026, the Sons of the American Revolution Piedmont Chapter planted a Elm Tree (Liberty Tree) at Bulloch Hall in Roswell, GA. Bulloch Hall was the home of Mittie Stewart Roosevelt the mother of our 26th US President Theodore (Teddy) Roosevelt an a SAR member too. The Liberty Tree was planted with the help of the Mayor Roswell City Kurt Wilson , Roswell City Council Members Lee Hills and William Morthland, Bob Hagan President of the Friends of Bulloch Hall, Bulloch Hall board members Sandy Buhler, Jonathan Cook, DAR Martha Stuart Bulloch DAR Chapter members – Regent Sue Gilbert, Cynthia Waskowsky, Catherine Jimenez, Pat Smith, Linda Reese, Barbara Florence, and SAR Piedmont members, President Stacey McCarver, National Liberty Tree Chairman Ron Redner, Rick Reese Jr., Rick Reese III, Glenn Kirk, Al Finley, George Thurmond and Roswell Rotary President Elect Alex Kaufman .

The Liberty Tree (1646–1775) was a famous elm tree that stood in Boston near Boston Common, in the years before the American Revolution. In 1765, colonists in Boston staged the first act of defiance against the British government at the tree. The tree became a rallying point for the growing resistance to the rule of Britain over the American colonies, and the ground surrounding it became known as Liberty Hall. In 1775 the British had enough of these rebellious rallies at the Liberty Tree and had it cut down.
