• Advantage Behavioral Health Is Ending Operations at North Avenue Day Shelter (flagpole.com) — Athens' Homeless Day Service Center on North Avenue will end showers and laundry Sept. 25 and fully close Oct. 16 unless another nonprofit steps in. Advantage Behavioral Health says it must refocus on core treatment services, while local leaders work on a transition plan, leaving many unhoused Athenians worried about meeting basic needs as colder weather approaches.
   

• Uber driver arrested on Arkansas warrants (onlineathens.com) — An Athens man reportedly lost $30,000 in a fake PayPal scam, one of several recent cases detailed by the Oconee County Sheriff's Office. Deputies also handled shoplifting at Walmart, suspected drug use at a QuikTrip, an Uber driver wanted on Arkansas warrants, and a stolen truck found in Bogart.
   

• 40,000 pounds of food donations arriving in Athens for America's 250th celebration (redandblack.com) — Athens-Clarke County residents facing food insecurity will soon benefit from 40,000 pounds of donated shelf-stable food arriving at the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia. Local officials and Latter-day Saints leaders will gather Thursday to welcome the JustServe truck, part of a nationwide America250 effort sending 250 truckloads of food to communities across all 50 states.
