“We normally do not comment on internal personnel matters, but context is important in this instance. Applicable policies require university employees to cooperate with internal investigations. Over the course of several months, Ms. Bowles was asked on numerous occasions to speak with our investigators and provide information, and through her attorney, she repeatedly refused to cooperate. As a result, we were ultimately left with no choice but to terminate her employment. We wish Ms. Bowles well in her recovery, and we will offer no further comment on this matter."
UGA football player Devin Willock and recruiting staffer Chandler LeCroy were killed in the Athens crash near Barnett Shoals Road. A second football player and a second university employee were injured in the accident. UGA football player Jalen Carter pleaded no contest to reckless driving and racing charges relating to the crash.

The athletic department at UGA launched a review on Jan. 24 into the crash, adding football policies would also be reviewed.
Attorneys for Bowles announced in mid-July that she was suing UGA for more than $170,000 in medical expenses. The lawsuit was filed on July 12 in Gwinnett County State Court.
Her lawsuit is the second UGA faces in connection with the crash. Willock's family also filed a lawsuit in May in Gwinnett due to the crash. The family sought $40 million.
