1st Federal Court Hearing In Trump's Georgia RICO Case Held: Reports

The court hearing is being held after former White House Chief of Staff motioned to have his case moved to federal court.

ATLANTA, GA — For the first time since former U.S. President Donald J. Trump and 18 others surrendered at the Fulton County Jail last week on RICO charges, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis is sharing details Monday in the nationally-watched election interference case.

A federal court hearing began at 10 a.m. and is being held in response to former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows' motion to move his case from state to federal court, and perhaps, have his charges dismissed altogether. CNN reported the hearing could possibly become a mini-trial that will foreshadow the case against Trump.

The massive group of defendants are accused of trying to interfere with the 2020 presidential election results in Georgia.

Meadows surrendered to the Fulton jail Thursday, according to the Fulton County Sheriff's Office. According to jail records, Meadows was charged on suspicion of violation of the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act and solicitation of violation of oath by public officer. His bond amount was $100,000.

According to the Washington Post, Meadows testified and defended his involvement in meetings and phone calls prosecutors said were conducted to overturn the 2020 presidential election. The outlet reported Meadows said "there was a federal interest in 'free and fair elections.'"

According to CNBC, Trump is set to be arraigned at 9:30 a.m., Sept. 6. Former New York Mayor and Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani will be arraigned at 9:45 a.m. while the remaining 17 defendants will be arraigned at 10 a.m.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Trump co-defendant and former Black Voices for Trump director Harrison Floyd will have a bond hearing Thursday. He is the only one of the 19 defendants to remain in jail as he did not have a preset bond agreement with Willis.
