GA Teens Egged Man's House Before Killing Him: Officials

SPALDING COUNTY, GA — Three Georgia residents have been charged with murder in a man's death, and officials say they egged his house before one shot him when he came outside to confront them.

The two 18-year-olds and a 19-year-old are accused of leaving the victim dead in the roadway in Spalding County. The sheriff's office said "it appears there was an ongoing lover's quarrel" among the suspects and the victim.

Deputies found the victim, Johnathan Gilbert aka "Tyler Lane," lying dead in the 100 block of Dobbins Mill Road on Monday. Gilbert did not have any identification on his person, so deputies used a fingerprint scan to identify him according to the the Spalding County Sheriff's Office.

Officials announced charges against Sydney Maughon, 18, Jeremy Munson, 18, and McKenzie Davenport, 19, on Friday.

The sheriff's office said that the three went to Gilbert's residence Monday, on Dobbins Mill, to vandalize it by throwing eggs at it. When he came out to confront them, the suspects ran back to the car. Gilbert kept approaching them them and Maughon, who was a back seat passenger in the car, "produced a firearm and shot him multiple times" according to the sheriff's office.

A witness provided investigators with information which helped them create "a direct link between the victim and the suspect," said Sheriff Darrell Dix. Investigators traced the vehicle involved in the alleged murder to Henry County, said Dix.

Maughon faces charges of murder, malice murder, aggravated assault, criminal trespass, firearm possession during the commission of the crime, and battery.

Munson is also accused of murder, malice murder, aggravated assault, criminal trespass, firearm possession during the commission of the crime, and battery.

Davenport is charged with malice murder, battery, and criminal trespass.

“Because they all plotted and planned together, and traveled to the location with the intent to commit a crime that led up to the murder together, they are all just as culpable as if they had each pulled the trigger themselves,” said Dix.
