ATL Police Shoot Juvenile, 2nd Cop Shooting In 1 Day

Authorities say two juveniles had stolen a vehicle and that the one who was shot fired his gun at officers. No gun was found at the scene.

ATLANTA, GA — A juvenile accused of helping steal a vehicle was shot by Atlanta Police on Friday — the second time a law-enforcement officer in the city shot a suspect that day and the third time in a week.

According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, APD officers were pursuing what was believed to be a stolen vehicle at about 1:30 p.m. Friday. An officer followed it to an apartment complex at 532 Cleveland Ave., where it was found to be occupied by two juveniles.

Both of them got out and ran away, according to the GBI. The officer followed and, at some point, one of them brandished a gun. The officer fired and the suspect kept running, but he was later caught and found to have suffered a gunshot wound.

The GBI says that "initial information indicates" that the juvenile fired at the officer during the chase.

The juvenile was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

No firearm was found at the scene, the GBI says.

The agency, which investigates all officer-involved shootings in Georgia, will turn its findings over to the Fulton County District Attorney's office for review.

Earlier Friday, off-duty Fulton County Sheriff's Office deputies shot and killed a man at an Atlanta bar and restaurant after authorities say he picked up a rifle in the business's parking lot.

Norris Duffy, 46, was shot and killed outside The Ivory Restaurant, at 599 Whitehall St. in southwest Atlanta. The shooting happened at about 4:50 a.m.

According to a preliminary GBI investigation, three Fulton sheriff's office deputies were working as security and found Duffy inside the restaurant arguing with someone else. They used a Taser to break up the altercation and Duffy was handcuffed, the GBI said.

They later released him and escorted him out of the restaurant and to his vehicle. That's when he pulled a rifle from his vehicle, according to investigators. One of the deputies fired several times, striking Duffy. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

And, on Monday, William Savalas Davis, 38, was shot by an off-duty Georgia State University police officer who was working security at the Greyhound Station on Forsyth Street.

According to the GBI, Davis had reportedly been behaving erratically and harassing customers in and outside the station. He struggled with the officer, even after being sprayed with pepper spray, and the officer fired once, striking him. He was taken to Grady, where he was listed in stable condition.
