ATLANTA — A 17-year-old Atlanta boy was killed and an unidentified 16-year-old was injured Thursday night when the stolen vehicle they were riding in hit a guardrail and flipped after being chased by a Georgia State Patrol trooper police said Friday.

Terrell Smith was killed in the accident, which took place on I-20 West, police said. A passenger in the vehicle, who is not being named by police, was injured but taken into custody. According to police, the Georgia State Patrol was called into to assist the Atlanta Police Department in pursing the driver of a stolen Ram 1500 in the 400 block of Whitehall Street at about 6:40 p.m.

After troopers arrived at the location, the vehicle entered I-20 West and the state trooper attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver failed to stop, police said. State police continued to chase the vehicle and attempted to use a maneuver to get the truck to turn sideways, which caused the vehicle to strike the guardrail and overturn, police said.
