Donald Trump Leads Hillary Clinton By Two in Georgia: New Poll

The AJC poll was released Friday morning with less than three weeks to go until election day.

ATLANTA, GA — With less than three weeks to go before election day, Donald Trump has a two-point lead over Hillary Clinton in Georgia.

A new AJC poll released Friday showed Trump leading Clinton 44-42 among likely Georgia voters, which is within the poll’s margin of error. Libertarian Gary Johnson came in at 9 percent, with 4 percent undecided.

A Washington Post/SurveyMonkey poll released the day of Clinton's and Trump's final debate showed Clinton leading Trump in electoral college votes to put her over the 270 majority needed to win the White House on Nov. 8. Clinton is holding leads of four percentage points or more among likely voters in states that add up to 304 electoral votes.

In the new poll, about six in 10 voters had negative views of both Trump and Clinton. And a third of Clinton’s supporters and almost half of Trump’s sujpporters see their pick vote for president as more of a vote against their opponent.

In other recent national polling, Clinton leads head-to-head match-ups against Trump, with the Democrat holding 47.7 percent support compared to 42.2 percent for the New York businessman, according to averages compiled by RealClear Politics. The poll was conducted among 1,999 registered voters Oct. 13-15 and has a margin of error of plus or minus two percentage points.

Early, in-person voting in Georgia began Monday, with more than 146,000 ballots cast on the first day.

Georgia has been solidly Republican for the last several presidential election cycles, but earlier in this year's campaign, both Clinton and Trump were investing in the Peach State. Former president Bill Clinton was in Atlanta in late August, raising money for his wife's campaign, while Donald Trump Jr. held a fundraiser for his father last week.

Trump expanded his Georgia campaign staff in August, following a fundraiser hosted, in part, by Home Depot co-founder Bernie Marcus and Charles Loundermilk, founder of Aarons.
